Choosing these covers was an easy decision once I saw the variety of embroidered designs, although narrowing down my favorites took a little longer. I love how the traditional patterns bring together so many colors while still feeling cohesive, and the textured stitching makes them stand out from printed fabrics. They've given my favorite corner of the house a fresh look, and I'm very happy with the result.

The piece
A Piece of Living Heritage for the Heart of the Home
Some objects simply fill a room, while others quietly change how a home feels, and this cover belongs to the second kind. Every inch of its front was stitched by hand in Palestine, one tiny cross at a time, in patterns mothers have taught their daughters for generations. Set on a sofa or a bed, it brings colour, warmth and a sense of story to the space, turning an ordinary corner into the place everyone wants to sit.
Each motif carries its own meaning, from cypress trees for strength to stars for hope and wheat for abundance, so the design keeps speaking long after the first glance. Because no machine touches it at any stage, small variations in stitch and tone make every cover truly one of a kind. It becomes the cushion guests ask about, the detail friends remember, and a quiet daily reminder of the hands and the heritage behind it.

The Desing
The Story Behind Violet Cypress
This cover is a celebration of colour: deep violet, lilac, sage green and soft apricot, stitched by hand on a dark ground. Tall cypress trees line the top and bottom edges. In tatreez, the cypress is a symbol of strength and endurance, an evergreen standing firm through every season.
At the centre, a band of crosses holds eight-pointed stars, one of the best-loved motifs in Palestinian embroidery, often linked to the Star of Bethlehem, light and hope. Between them run fine geometric borders, each counted and stitched thread by thread.
Tree of Life, Ivory & Indigo
The Story Behind Tree of Life, Ivory & Indigo
At the heart of this cover grows a tree of life rising from a vase, one of the oldest motifs in Palestinian embroidery and a symbol of life, fertility and deep roots in the land. A rooster crowns the tree, a sign of dawn and watchfulness, and a pair of birds faces it from either side, often read as love and companionship.
Around this central panel, the embroiderer has gathered a whole garden of traditional motifs: flowers, roses, cypress trees, stars and geometric medallions, in indigo, sky blue, emerald green and burgundy on an ivory ground. The layout echoes the richly embroidered chest panel of a traditional Palestinian dress.
Tree of Life, Ivory & Terracotta
The Story Behind Tree of Life, Ivory & Terracotta
The same beloved composition as our Ivory & Indigo cover, stitched in a warm, earthy palette. A tree of life rises from a vase at the centre, a symbol of life and of roots in the land. A rooster sits at its top, a sign of dawn and watchfulness, with a pair of birds on either side for love and companionship.
All around, a patchwork of traditional motifs (roses, flowers, cypress trees, stars and medallions) glows in terracotta, apricot, olive green, teal and plum on an ivory ground. The colours recall the hills and olive groves of Palestine at sunset.
Tree of Life, Midnight
The Story Behind Tree of Life, Midnight
Our tree of life design, stitched on a deep midnight-blue ground, where every colour glows like a jewel. At the centre, a golden tree of life rises from a vase, a symbol of life and deep roots. A rose-red rooster sits at its top for dawn and watchfulness, and a pair of turquoise birds stands on either side for love and companionship.
Around it, roses, flowers, cypresses and star medallions are worked in rose, magenta, gold, turquoise and soft lilac. The dark ground is traditional too: many Palestinian dresses were embroidered on deep indigo or black cloth.
Midnight Diamonds
The Story Behind Midnight Diamonds
A calm, elegant design in sea green, ivory and a touch of blush pink, stitched by hand on a midnight-blue ground. Through the centre runs a band of diamonds, each holding a small cross. In tatreez, the diamond is often read as a protective motif, and as an eye watching over the home.
On either side, rows of ears of wheat and leafy branches stand in neat lines, motifs of harvest, abundance and a good life, rooted in Palestine’s farming villages. Fine blush-pink flowers soften the geometry.
Ivory Stars
The Story Behind Ivory Stars
This cover reads like a song in colour. On an ivory ground, row after row of traditional motifs are stitched in terracotta, olive green, plum, teal, gold and soft pink. A band of eight-pointed stars, the motif often linked to the Star of Bethlehem, light and hope, runs across the middle. Below it rise tall cypress trees, symbols of strength and endurance, and at the base a row of crosses and stars closes the design.
The many colours sit together in perfect harmony, so it is an easy cushion to mix with plain textiles or other tatreez.

The real thing
Real Thread, Real Hands, Real Confidence
Many “embroidered” cushions sold online are printed polyester made to look handmade, which makes knowing the real thing more important than ever. This cover holds thousands of genuine cross-stitches, each one counted against the threads of the fabric by an embroiderer who learned the craft through generations. Look closely at the photos and the tiny raised crosses tell the whole story: real thread, real hands and real patience, with no shortcuts at any stage.
Every detail is shared openly, from the colours and motifs to the size and care instructions, so the only surprise on arrival is how much more beautiful the handwork looks in person. Cared for gently, a hand-embroidered piece like this keeps its colour and character beautifully, ready to move from the living room to the bedroom or to a new home. Palestinian families have long kept their embroidery as treasures, and this cover is made to be cherished the same way: a piece to live with, gift with pride and one day pass on.
The craft
A Living Heritage from Palestine
Tatreez is the cross-stitch embroidery of Palestine, passed from mother to daughter for generations. For centuries, women stitched it onto their dresses, and each village had its own colours and motifs: a dress could reveal where a woman came from. In 2021, UNESCO inscribed Palestinian embroidery on its list of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
